How do I update my CName Record as a part of the Core Publisher HTTPS transition?

As we have previously communicated, we are transitioning all Core Publisher sites to HTTPS to provide a more secure experience for you and your web visitors.

What you need to know:
As a part of this transition, the DNS records of all Core Publisher sites have to be updated. Specifically, the www cname record needs to be updated to point to the new domain.

If NPR Digital Services hosts your DNS, then you are all set! We have already updated the CName record for your Core Publisher site.

If your site’s DNS is hosted on your end, you will have to make the update to your CName record. This may involve working with others at your station or an internal IT department.

To find out who hosts your domain see steps below:
  • Visit https://www.whois.com
  • Enter your domain.
  • Scroll down and review the NameServer section.
  • We handle your DNS if your namesver says:
    • Name Server:NS1.PUBLICINTERACTIVE.COM
    • Name Server:NS3.PUBLICINTERACTIVE.COM
  • If the name server listed is not PUBLICINTERACTIVE, then we do not manage your DNS and you need to contact the person listed on the whois.net page under "Technical Contact."
  • Provide them with the instructions below so they can update your DNS information.

What you need to do:
If someone at your station, or your local IT department, hosts and manages your DNS, you must take action and update your domain record for your main domain (www.domain.org)  that points to your Core Publisher site immediately.

Note: This needs to be completed as soon as possible as standard DNS propagation rules apply (all DNS updates can take up to 24-48 hours to propagate throughout the internet).

If you have additional subdomains that point to your Core Publisher site, please submit a support ticket before making any changes to those subdomains, as there are steps that we have to take first to set those up.
