How do I update my DNS for the NPR Digital Services Data Center move?

The NPR Digital Services data center, currently located in Boston, has moved to Washington DC as part of the relocation of the NPR Digital Services team as of September 14, 2017.

What you need to know:
Due to the move, we are shutting down our Boston servers and we have a new IP address for all Core Publisher sites. We need DNS A Records to be updated to point to this new IP address number to ensure that Core Publisher sites are live and accessible for all visitors.

How do I know who hosts my DNS:
If NPR Digital Services has hosted your DNS, then your external website domain has been updated. If someone at your station or an internal IT department, the is especially true for university licensees, then they your station hosts and manages your DNS and you have to take action. We do not have access to your domains.

To find out who hosts your domain see steps below:
  • Visit
  • Enter your domain
  • Scroll down and review the NameServer section.
  • We handle your DNS if your namesver says:
  • If the name server listed is not PUBLICINTERACTIVE, then we do not manage your DNS and you need to contact the person listed on the page under "Technical Contact."
  • Provide them with the instructions below so they can update your DNS information.
What you need to do:
If someone at your station, or your local IT department, hosts and manages your DNS, you must take action and update your domain records for your main domain and any sub domains that point to your Core Publisher site immediately.

Note: We need this completed as soon as possible as standard DNS propagation rules apply (all DNS updates can take up to 24-48 hours to propagate throughout the internet).

Updating Your DNS for Station Admin Users - Changing your internal network settings

If you have a local IT department, especially if you are a university licensee, your station may have a firewall, proxy server, or network setting that is hard coded to point your Core Publisher site to our old IP address. Contact your IT department and tell them to whitelist our new IP address and/or update the network settings to point to the new IP address.

If you are a university licensee or have an onsite IT department managing your DNS, please contact them as soon as possible and provide them with the instructions below.

1. Login to your Domain Registrar
2. Find Your Domain Settings

3. Remove the existing "A Record" information:
