Core Publisher: What are my options for manually publishing stories from the NPR Story API?

You can manually pull any story that you see on NPR.org or on the list of stories on the Get NPR Content page in your Core Publisher admin onto your site.

There are three ways to manually publish an NPR story to your site using the NPR Story API:
  1. Choosing a story from the Get NPR Content list in your site admin
  2. Using the keyword search on the Get NPR Content page to find a story to publish on your site
  3. Searching the NPR Story API using a URL or ID from NPR.org

1. Choosing a story from the Get NPR Content list in your site admin

Navigate to the Get NPR Content tab to pull content from the NPR Story API.

Any posts with Published next to the title in black text have already been published on your Core Publisher site. All posts in blue text have not yet been published on your site.

To publish a post from the NPR Story API through Get NPR Content:
  1. Click on the title of a post that you want to publish.
  2. Preview the headline, image and post body.
  3. Click on the Publish Now button to save the post on your site.
You can then edit the post to change the Category and Tags. You cannot edit the headline, image or body of a post from the NPR Story API.

2. Using the keyword search on the Get NPR Content page to find a story to publish on your site

You can also search the NPR Story API for a post to publish on your site from the Get NPR Content page in your Core Publisher admin. Simply type in the chosen keyword into blank field and click on the Search button. All of your searches are saved for future use in an autocomplete dropdown. Click on Clear popular searches to clear that list.

3. Searching the NPR Story API using a URL or ID from NPR.org

If you find an article on NPR.org that you want to pull onto your site, all you will need is the URL of the post to publish it on your site.

To search the NPR Story API using a URL or ID through Get NPR Content:
  1. Click on the Find by URL or ID link.
  2. Paste the URL of the NPR post in the NPR API story URL field.
    • Note: Remove the "s" from https://
  3. Or, if you already have an NPR Story ID paste that in the NPR API story URL field.
