Core Publisher: How do I display external content (not from NPR or a NPR station) on my site?

A Web Clip allows for quick posts of external content. If you find a news article or post somewhere on a non-Core Publisher or NPR-affiliated site, you can easily link to it using the Web Clip. You can also add an extra introductory paragraph so that your readers will have context as to how the article relates to them.

A Web Clip is treated like a Post in Core Publisher, so you will be able to add a Category and Tags, as well as feature it in your Homepage River.
Click on the Add Content link in the grey and black admin bar, and then select Web Clip to navigate to the Create Web Clip page.

To create a new Web Clip:
All fields with a red asterisk (*) are required to save your new Web Clip.

  1. Enter the full URL of the external article that you want to share in the Embed a URL field.
  2. In the Title field, enter a custom title for your Web Clip. This does not have to be the published title of the article from the original source.
  3. In the Lead in text field, enter a short custom introductory paragraph that will display at the beginning of the Web Clip.
  4. Think of the Via as a “retweet” or “hat tip” on a social media site. Add information about where you found the article online in the Via Name and Via URL fields.
  5. Click on the Embed button to see a preview of the Web Clip. This will not save or publish your Web Clip.
  6. Check the Display on the river? checkbox if you want your post to display in the Homepage River.
  7. Assign a Category and up to five Tags.
  8. Click on the Save button to save your Web Clip.
