Salesforce Marketing Cloud: How To Get a List of Held and Unsubscribed Emails

In Salesforce Marketing Cloud, all email addresses remain listed in your data extensions even if SMC is no longer sending to them because they have unsubscribed from your emails, or the address has bounced too many times.

Use the NPRStationsSubscriberListReport to see a list of all the emails in your account, across all of your lists, along with their current status in SMC.

There are 3 possible statuses for any email address:

Active: SMC will send to this email
Held: SMC has marked this email as un-sendable because it has bounced too many times. SMC will not send to them, even if you upload the address as part of a one-time list.
Unsubscribed: The user has requested they stop receiving emails from your organization. SMC will not send to them, even if you upload the address as part of a one-time list.


To get a list of Unsubscribed and Held emails, do the following:
  1. On the top bar go to Tracking > Reports
  2. Scroll down the left sidebar and scroll down to the custom reports at the bottom. 
  3. Click on NPRStationSubscriberListReport
  4. You will have to fill out the following fields:
    • Report Parameters: Set the date for the report. It is recommended you choose the past week (the default parameters are set to April 2016. This will be old and not up-to-date)
    • Report Results Delivery: Check off the box labelled 'Email Report Results'. Add email, subject and additional comments as necessary
    • Results File Format: Set format for report. It is recommended you use Excel Spreadsheet (.xls)
    • Run the Report: Set the time the Report will be delivered. 
  5. Hit 'Submit'
    Tip: To check on status of the report, go to the left sidebar and choose My Reports>Report Status and History.
When ready, the report will be emailed to you. It will contain all the emails in your account, across all your lists, along with their current status:
