Analytics: Using Google Analytics Events Reporting

By default Google Analytics tracks all pages viewed by your users, but it can also be customized to track granularinteractions by using "events".  If you are a Core Publisher station a number of these interactions are captured automatically and can be reported in Google Analytics using the "Top Events" report. To access that report click on Behavior>Events>Top Events.

You can now customize the report to view the detail most relevant to you. Category is the highest level of categorization and includes Engagement, Downloads, Exits and others. Event Action describes the interaction and includes Plays of streams and audio files, sharing, and navigational clicks. Event Label will include the specific element or files that were involved in the interaction. By adding "Page" as a secondary dimension you can also see where on your site the user interacted with this element.

Here's a list of common events found in our tracking:
Stream_Play
Stream_Pause
Facebook_Share
Twitter_Share
Email_Share
itunes_subscribe
RSS_subscribe
and more...
