Marketing Forms: Can A Donor Update Their Credit Card Through My Form?

Our forms do not have a way for a donor to update their credit card without instigating a new pledge.

Some stations have a form they call their "Update" form where they send existing sustainers when asking them to renew their gift, or update their information.

Technically, when the form is submitted, a brand new pledge will be created.  For pledges coming in through the update form, you would need to look up each donor to see if they already have an active sustaining pledge set up, and cancel it to let the new pledge take over.

NPR can help you create custom fields on your sustainer update form as needed. Some stations have created custom questions to help them better understand what information the donor is trying to update:

You may also customize the language on the payment buttons:

In the above example, the "Bill Me Later" payment option has been updated so its label reads, "continue existing payment method." Technically, these are still being recorded as bill me later pledges. Someone at the station must still find the donor's payment profile wherever it is being managed, and make the changes requested by the donor.

More information on what can be customized on a form is available here.
